GRBJ: Firm building 43-home development in suburb

A homebuilder is progressing on a 43-lot development in a Grand Rapids suburb.

Representatives from Rockford-based Sable Homes and officials from the Village of Sparta and the Sparta Chamber of Commerce celebrated last week the formal “opening” of lots in the sixth and final phase of the 50-year-old Country Meadows development in Sparta. The 43-lot phase is located east of Martindale Street NW and Tentree Street on the village’s southeast side.

Homes are being sold through a combination of pre-sold lots and built inventory. About six homes at the site are in various stages of construction, the Grand Rapids Business Journal reported in an Aug. 23 story.

“It is great to see Country Meadows’ final phase come to life after all these years,” Village Manager Julius Suchy said. “We are excited to finally welcome new homeowners in this corner of Sparta.”

Sable Homes broke ground on the 16-acre sixth phase of Country Meadows last September. The project should be completed in under three years.

The $1.5-million phase is slated to include the construction of 43 homes on new streets with village water and sewer, cable, electricity and natural gas, the Business Journal previously reported.

“Sparta is a great community for families from all walks of life, and the Country Meadows neighborhood is no exception,” said John Bitely, the president of Sable Homes, who was born and raised in Sparta.
