Earlier this month, LinkedIn released its inaugural list of 25 Cities on the Rise for 2025 – ranking Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the top of the list.

Grand Rapids was named among the 25 fastest-growing U.S. metros for jobs and new talent, which included: Boise (No. 2) Milwaukee (No. 5), Portland (No. 6), Myrtle Beach (No. 7), Nashville (No. 9), Indianapolis (No. 14), Colorado Springs (No. 15), Sacramento (No. 16), and Austin (No. 18), among others.

As to why Grand Rapids is on the rise? LinkedIn states: “A growing tech scene and booming insurance industry are helping Grand Rapids redefine its industrial identity while drawing a wave of young professionals thanks to its growing job market, bustling downtown and proximity to Lake Michigan.”

In the blog, LinkedIn listed manufacturing, healthcare, and professional services as Grand Rapids’ top industries that are hiring, and named Corewell Health, Grand Valley State University and Meijer as the top employers.

“Bookstores and cinemas rank among the top destinations for Grand Rapids residents, reflecting a strong local interest in culture and entertainment,” states the LinkedIn blog.

How did LinkedIn identify its rankings?

“We analyzed LinkedIn’s exclusive labor market data to identify 25 emerging metro areas where hiring is accelerating, job postings are surging and talent migration is reshaping local economies,” the blog states. “Whether you’re starting out, switching careers or looking for your next move, these are the cities to watch.”
