
Why slab-foundation homes are becoming an increasing trend in West Michigan and nationwide, providing a cost savings for homeowners
Sable Homes President John Bitely recently met with FOX 17 at one of the home builders’ homes in Cedar Springs to show how new homes without basements can provide a significant cost savings for families.
“You can save anything from $15,000–$20,000, quite quickly on the home,” said Bitely during his interview with FOX 17.
The design of the Sable Homes slab-foundation home in Cedar Springs reflects an increasing trend both in West Michigan and nationally, according to the National Association of Home Builders. Utilities are stored under the stairs, with the furnace, water heater and well tank all fitting into that space.
The no-basement approach not only adds practicality, but also meets the needs of modern families seeking comfort and savings.
“We’ve been doing these homes, this style, a good 15+ years,” said Bitely. “So we have quite a past with it, and we’ve had very good results.”
