Sable Homes, Village of Sparta celebrate completion of 50-year-old Country Meadows neighborhood
Representatives from Sable Homes, along with officials from the Village of Sparta and the Sparta Chamber of Commerce, celebrated the opening of the final phase of a 50-year-old neighborhood on Thursday, Aug. 16. Joined by members of the Sparta community, a ribbon-cutting was held at the entrance of the Country Meadows neighborhood near the intersection of Tentree and Blake Streets on the village’s southeast side.
“It is great to see Country Meadows’ final phase come to life after all these years,” Village Manager Julius Suchy said. “Right from the very beginning, Sable Homes has done a remarkable job bringing this neighborhood to completion. We are excited to finally welcome new homeowners in this corner of Sparta.”
The first phase of Country Meadows was developed by the Taylor family in 1961 and subsequent phases were developed through 1998. The 16-acre neighborhood had not seen any new homes over the course of the next 20 years. But the Village of Sparta and Sable Homes recently partnered together to change that and revive the residential neighborhood, located between 12 Mile and E. Division St., near downtown Sparta and Sparta Area Schools. In September 2017, Sable Homes and village officials broke ground on the sixth and final phase of Country Meadows, which includes construction of 43 lots on new streets with village water and sewer, cable, electricity and natural gas. Now nearly a year later, they are celebrating their restoration efforts and rolling out the welcome mat for new homeowners.
“Sparta is a great community for families from all walks of life, and the Country Meadows neighborhood is no exception,” said Sable Homes President John Bitely, who was born and raised in Sparta. “We are proud to provide this opportunity that will open residential doors — not only for new homeowners in Sparta, but for current Sparta residents who want to upgrade from their current home.”
The Country Meadows neighborhood is the second residential project that Sable Homes has partnered with the Village of Sparta. In 2013, Sable Homes created Central Town Square with 20 new homes at the former Central School property located on the northeast corner of Union and Grove streets.
“Completing the Country Meadows neighborhood will only add to Sparta’s residential and economic growth,” said Sparta Downtown Development & Chamber of Commerce Director Elizabeth Morse. “We appreciate our village officials and Sable Homes’ commitment to enhance our already beautiful village.”

This is an example of how nice a neighborhood can be when people work together. Thank you all!
